The Island Sings

Weave Duo
In The Island Sings, Weave Duo presents a poetic reimagining of Taiwanese folk songs, drawing inspiration from the profound success of their recent Taiwan tour. This program features arrangements by composer Katherine Ching-Fang Teng, whose sensitive and inventive writing breathes new life into traditional melodies through the duo’s unique instrumentation of harp and cello.
From intimate lullabies to songs of longing and resilience, The Island Sings invites audiences into the emotional landscape of Taiwan. Through their refined interpretations and Teng’s evocative arrangements, Weave Duo crafts a concert experience that bridges cultures and generations—celebrating the island’s voice as it sings to the world.
Weave Duo is formed by cellist ShengChiun Lin and harpist Joost Willemze. Joost is a versatile and award-winning harpist, recognized internationally with top prizes including the Grachtenfestival Conservatory Competition and the Wales International Harp Competition, earning him the title of “Next Level Harpist” in the Netherlands. Taiwan-born cellist ShengChiun Lin has been based in the Netherlands for a decade and is equally accomplished, having received the Second Prize at the Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin, and serving as the Artistic Director of the “Weave Art Festival Taiwan–Netherlands 400 Festival” in 2024.
Since then, Weave Duo has performed at prestigious events and venues including Dutch national broadcaster NPO, Weave Art Festival, and the Taiwan National Day Reception in the Netherlands. In early 2025, the duo embarked on their first tour in Taiwan, giving ten performances across the country. Their concerts at Taipei National Concert Hall and National Taichung Theater were both sold out, receiving enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
