Island Within

Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet
Island Within weaves together a Taiwanese folk song, Widmann’s Capricci, Mendelssohn’s Hebrides, and Glass’s Mishima. Together, they reflect on solitude, memory, and transformation. The program explores how cultural roots, emotional restlessness, nature’s vastness, and meditative repetition guide us through isolation—toward clarity, connection, and a deeper sense of self.
“An outstanding young ensemble worth following”, praised by the dutch violinist Maria Milstein, the Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet is a young and energetic chamber music ensemble established in 2019. Coming from four different parts of the world, Lisa, Jen-Hong, Ileana and Pedro, all driven by their passion for music have found together in the culturally vibrant city of Amsterdam, where the four of them are currently studying at the Conservatorium under the guidance of the Dutch saxophone coryphée Arno Bornkamp.
In combining their different cultures and backgrounds the four are provided a never-ceasing richness and variety of musical possibilities and choices. Open-mindedly and light-heartedly they continue to seek to secure a constant place for the classical saxophone in the music of today and tomorrow!
